Week 9: Another great week in Magyarország! 🇭🇺
NA. Ez a hét csodálatos volt! (This week was awesome!)
First off my sister Abby had her Baby!!! Woohoo I'm an aunt now!!! It was really fun to be able to FaceTime and see cute little baby Henry. I am so proud of her and happy for them!!
This week we made home made Paprikás csirké! (A famous Hungarian dish with chicken, and peppers.) It is soo delicious! It actually turned out really well.
We also had our exchange in Győr again!! It's so fun to be with other sisters and see their cities. We ate dinner at a restaurant that's a boat on the water. It felt sort of like pirates of the Caribbean!
Lessons with R are going well. He has his baptismal interview on Sunday so we're working on reviewing all the rest of the commandments before that. He is truly so sweet and ready for baptism. We had to meet on video call because his sister got sick. His younger brother kept trying to sit in front of the camera or distract R. Every time he did, R would stand up run off to find another quiet spot where he could hear us. He kept asking us to repeat the questions because he truly wanted to learn what we were teaching him about. His answers were so simple and pure. We asked, R, why is it important to read the scriptures? He said "well its the most important part of the day!" And when you think about it it's simple but true. When we put God first we see his hand in our lives. We notice our blessings. I also love teaching him because I can understand everything he says! And that's not always the case with the lessons we teach 😂
Christmas decorations are being put up! Since there is no Thanksgiving here all of the lights in the town squares as well as the markets are going up! Missionary work is the best at Christmas time because it's so natural to talk about Jesus Christ! We'll be doing quite a bit of singing in church so a perfect opportunity to invite our new friends. Me and my companion are also the instagram leaders! That means we organize and plan posts for our page, Come unto Christ ( jöjj Krisztushoz)
. It's going to be busy but really exciting as we start Light the World. Life is so much better when you get to look at others lives and see what you can do to help them. That's something I was reminded of when I read the talk titled "The Need For a Church" this week by Dallin H Oaks. In it he says, “We do not go to Sabbath meetings to be entertained or even solely to be instructed. We go to worship the Lord. It is an individual responsibility. … If the service is a failure to you, you have failed. No one can worship for you; you must do your own waiting upon the Lord.” And I LOVED that. Are we living our lives to just be filled expecting to see what church and do for us? Or are we trying to go out and serve? Are we trying to fill others at church? It was such a good reminder for me, especially when church is really hard for me to understand still and I don't feel like I I always get a ton out of it.
This week we went to a castle called Keszthely! It's next to the Balaton and it was freeeezing but beautiful. Hungary is so cold and it's not even winter yet! Haha that will be fun. We went with a cute girl we teach English to that we found online.
We always start every online English teaching with a prayer and slowly she started asking more and more questions about the Book of Mormon and our religion. We were able to give her and her mom both their own Books of Mormon today with our testimonies written inside and our favorite scriptures marked throughout it. They said they couldn't wait to read it!! 😊
Have an amazing week! Go out and serve someone😄
