Week 19 : Pəˈfɛkt/ perfect

verb

Pəˈfɛkt/ perfect
make (something) completely free from faults or defects

This is Google's definition of the word perfect. In other words, it means flawless. No flaws. Zero mistakes. It the scriptures, there are many references to becoming perfect as well,

3 Nephi 12: 48 "Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect."

1 Kings 8:61 "Let your heart therefore be perfect with the Lord our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day."
Windyyyyy day

I was thinking about how sometimes, the thought of wanting to be perfect could hold me back from a really good opportunity! Let's say I wanted to talk to a woman on the bus, but I knew I wasn't going to pronounce my words perfectly, so I didn't say anything. Or for a real life example, this week I sang a song for the Hungary mission Instagram page, and my companion played the piano. I decided to sing it in Hungarian, but I didn't have time to memorize all the words. We recorded 4 different takes, and each one had a different mistake. In my ideal situation, I would have liked to have one without any mistakes! But what good does that do? We are not placed on this earth to just have ideal situations! The hard part is acting, and knowing that we won't be perfect (because that's impossible,) but we do it anyway because in the end it's actually BETTER than what we had planned for. Maybe hearing a couple mistakes in the song made someone feel the spirit and hear the authenticity or emotion in the song. I'm not sure exactly, but I felt so much peace this week knowing that it's a lot BETTER if were not perfect but rather we become more whole and fully developed and knowledgeable when we act anyway.

MIRACLE
- we had 2 new people show up to our weekly English class! One is a 19 year old girl who's speaks really well and the other was an older woman who we've never met. For English class, the same 3 people have come for my entire time serving here, so it was so fun to have new faces. We start and end each group class with a prayer, and also end with a spiritual thought. We had the idea the read out of The Friend with them and also have them try to translate it. They LOVED it. Usually English class feels pretty silent and repetitive, but by the end they were all taking turns and grabbing the phone wanting to read more of the little story about Jesus. They found some awesome new words and it was such a good uplifting feeling.

As a mission, we are doing the emotional resilience program, and I love it!! It's totally changed my mindset on missionary work and life in general. That's where these thoughts about perfection came from.
Birthday Palacsintas (like crepes)

This week was my companions birthday! So fun, we got to go to a couple book shops and we also went out to lunch.

  Falafel

Later this week, our friend Éva who we practice English with took us to a sweet shop. We practiced English there and she bought us little cakes and let us pick out chocolates. She seriously one of the coolest people ever. My companion and I were talking about how we keep meeting the coolest, most selfless people.

-My companion (Terry Nővér ) LOVES chocolate!

We have also been talking to one of our friends a lot about baptism lately. He has been investigating the church for about 10 years! We finally this week we're able to ask him to pray about a specific baptism date. He pulled out his calendar and circled it! We met with our Branch President and he also totally agrees that he is ready, but he has also had a baptismal date and it's fallen through.. so we're really praying for guidance on how to help him commit!!

Lots of people are sick within covid, so we couldn't meet with all our friends, but we got to visit a member who lives about an hour away and it meant so much to her! I could potentially leave my city at the end of this transfer, so I'm trying to soak everything up!! So grateful for the members in this branch. Even though it's so small, their faith is awesome and they are such good examples. I really love being a missionary!! I invite you to do something this week, knowing that you definitely won't be perfect at it, but be ok with it! Know that it's probably better that way.
