Week 31: Funny Moments with Blunt Hungarians

This week FLEW by so quickly. On Monday we had our district service project. We went to Migration Aid which is the hostel for Ukranian refugees. We were helping to put up blinds in each of their rooms so that they could have some privacy. Once you put these coverings on the windows, you can see through into the outside, but other people can't see in. It was great to help out and my companion and I successfully put this covering up in quite a few of the rooms. It was pretty difficult and took about 30 min a window. Well we got to the last one and it was massive! Our whole district worked on it for almost an hour, making sure it was without any bubbles and super flat. At the end after feeling accomplished, the woman who was in charge comes in and shakes her head. She just looks at it and says.. no. no. it is not good. And proceeds to riiippp the whole thing off! we felt pretty defeated. But then the senior couples told us they would take us to lunch. So we all went and got McDonald's.

Preparing Windows for Ukrainian Hostels

McDonald's in Budapest

On Tuesday we went to Nyiregyháza for our exchange. It is a 3 hour train ride. It is right on the boarder of Ukraine, and closer to Ukraine than it is to Budapest. On the train ride there, we met a kind woman.. well somewhat kind. We started talking to her and had a super natural conversation about God and why we are here. She was saying how many Hungarians are negative and I said, oh I hope we are giving you positive vibes by talking with you. She said, "Oh yes totally! I love talking with you ... but I really don't like your shoes." Hahah what? It was so random... but I guess she was just being honest.
But the rest of the conversation went really well and I asked her if we could share a message about our beliefs. We ended up telling her the whole restoration and gave her a book of Mormon! She was totally accepting of it, and we got her facebook.
Our exchange was great. We went to a member's house and she fed us stuffed cabbage which is actually better than you think. I will miss the néni food.

On the way back from our exchange, we met another woman. She was from Ukraine and get this.. she was a pretty famous Classical Opera singer. She had fled from her home and had a really difficult life. She also had a lot of false information about our church and we were able to explain to her a lot of our beliefs, as well as debunk some things she thought she knew about us. We tried to give her a pass along card but she wasn't interested. It was interesting though because by the end, I asked her what she thought was the purpose of life, and she came to the same conclusion that we had: to grow, become better and become more like Jesus Christ.

We went to the Museum of Fine Art in Budapest to see the original paintings of Hieronymus Bosch

We got to film the music video again! You know the one we filmed at the castle? Well the wind was so crazy and we didn't know the lyrics when we filmed it, so it was too hard to put it together. We refilmed behind the Buda castle, with all the pink blossoms in full bloom! OUR NEW MUSIC VIDEOS WILL BE COMING OUT SOON!

I love this scripture from Alma. "Therefore, O my son, whosoever will come may come and partake of the waters of life freely; and whosoever will not come the same is not compelled to come; but in the last day it shall be restored unto him according to his deeds." We taught our friend B this week about the Plan of Salvation. He came to church again as well! We got to teach him about how in this life, we can choose Jesus Christ and we can choose him freely! I find soooo much more joy in my life when I even think more about Jesus Christ. I love Sister Craven's talk from conference because she talks about doing the gospel of Jesus christ. About living it! That is when we will see the miracles. Have a great week! My challenge for you all is to try to feel the spirit every day. Even if it is just while praying or reading your scriptures.

Also, If you didn't see "Lamb of God" We were able to see this during  Easter. It is so incredibly professional and inspiring. It is performed by GENTRI and other Broadway professionals.
