Week 38: Little moments MATTER!
I will kick this letter right off with the miracles.
This week we met with a girl named "V". She was found by a sister missionary here who texted her randomly saying that she liked her hat. Little did this sister know that V's family had lived in an apartment under the missionaries for years and her family had invited them over for dinner many times. She had very fond memories of them being with her family, and agreed to meet with the sisters. Well now she lives in Budapest and we met with her at a Starbucks last week. We talked about her life and her problems and we promised her that God would guide her in making her life decisions. We asked her if she would be interested in meeting more often and taking the lessons that we teach. I realized the blessing of asking direct questions guided by the spirit. She said yes! A few days later, she told us she had prayed and felt more guidance and clarity than ever in her life. She asked, did you guys pray for me too or something? We told her we did. We are now spending our Pday traveling to her city so that we can spend time with her family, have lunch at their house and have a game day. If that isn't a miracle I don't know what is!
- I think Robinson Nővér and I talked to a new person every time we went onto public transport/ walking from the ward building this week. These are the miracles we saw
- A woman from Ukraine who was so kind and wanted to learn English
- A young newly married woman who was going to school here that we found on facebook
- A woman with her dog who we stopped and talked to. She had met a group of 20 elders in front of our building about 3 years ago. One Elder had given her a Book of Mormon and folded down the page, pointed to a verse and said this is the reason why I came on a mission! She had since lost the folded page and wanted to read the Book of Mormon but hadn't yet. She said she would read it and we encouraged her as well. It was such a natural amazing interaction.
- We offered up our seat to a woman who had just gotten on the bus. I told her I liked her shoes or said it was super hot or something like that and she offered us some fresh cherries in a little Tupperware. We took some and got into a conversation. My comp started talking about how she loved music and violins. She seemed surprised and showed us her screen saver. It was a violin! She was a violin teacher at a music school. Before we knew it it was our stop, but I miraculously found one of our English class pass along cards from my bag and gave it to her before we left!
- After our last weeks Pday activities, we were walking home and a woman came up to us out of nowhere. She said "Oh Mormons, I love you guys! I used to go to your English classes." She asked if we wanted to meet up this week!!
Other events from the week.
- We had a country wide Relief Society activity where we had country line dancing, sewing, singing and painting. All sisters serving in Hungary were invited to attend. I got to see members from my last city and even connect with some non-members.
- I started to give Robinson Nővér some voice lessons! It's so much fun. I find a lot of joy in music.
- We met with Kamilla this week and went up to beautiful Fishermans Bastian. She has been a convert for only one year, and now translates for the Pest ward almost every week and is planning to go on a mission. We had an awesome conversation with her about missionary work.
- We taught a 15 year old girl named C online about the restoration.
The overlying revelation I received this week is that....
Little moments matter! Little moments where you show love to your companions, little moments where you agree to take the cherries a random lady offers you on the bus, and pull out a pass along card to throw into her hands as you rush off the bus. The time you spend with members bringing the spirit into their homes.
Sunday we visited with a member and she said "Meeting with the missionaries is like starting a new day! No matter what kind of day you have had, when the missionaries come in and bring the spirit, it is a new start!" I am so grateful to be here in Pest. I am learning so much. God is good.
I also learned that leadership means you put in double the diligence and double the hard work, otherwise you are a stinky dictator or hypocrite-king. In the words of Moroni to Pahoran: "Behold, could ye suppose that ye could sit upon your thrones, and because of the exceeding goodness of God ye could do nothing and he would deliver you? Behold, if ye have supposed this ye have supposed in vain." As leaders you must set the example! Practice what you preach! I love the Book of Mormon and the life lessons it teaches. If you have not read it today, go read it!!!
