Week 39: Re- mark- able!

 I love the word "Remarkable!"

[Re] as again  [Mark] is something that stands out and [Able] is the ability to do something!

Something remarkable is the respect people in Hungary have for their grandmothers and grandfathers. The nénis and bácsis. We had dinner with an entire Hungarian family on Sunday. After sitting at the table and talking for a bit while dinner was prepared, the mom told us to stand up and go introduce ourselves to her father. We walked across the room to his chair and shook his hand and told him our names. It was like our little entrance, respect, acceptance (or whatever you would like to call it) into the family for the night. Family and food is such a huge part of the  culture.

Here is one of my favorite miracles of the week. We received a referral named V. It was definitely not a Hungarian name so I thought it may have been a mistake. We called him anyway and he told us he was from Brazil. We told him the details of church and he said he'd try to make it. Well Sunday came and there were many new people in church! Lots of families who were traveling through our international ward for the summer. I had felt prompted to not sit my companion and instead sit by a Hungarian family in our ward I didn't know very well. We didn't talk much but more than halfway through the meeting, I saw a man slip in the back door. Nobody really saw him but because I was in the back row I noticed. As soon as the meeting ended he stood up and was out the door quickly. I felt like I needed to talk to him so I basically chased him out and caught him right before he stepped outside. I thanked him for coming and asked his name. It was V! He had moved here from Brazil and received an advertisement from our church about coming. He didn't know anything about our church but really was looking for change. I talked to this man for almost a full hour after sacrament meeting. He told me he hadn't been able to hear a lot of the meeting, he felt bad he wasn't wearing a white shirt and tie and so he tried to leave quickly after the meeting. But since we were able to talk right after, we found out a lot about him!  Young adults lifestyle is often drinking and partying. He is constantly surrounded by people who think alcohol is the key to happiness. To say the least we had an awesome connection with him and I'm so grateful God helped me to be in the right place at the right time.
Another super cool miracle we saw was on Saturday night. Our referral didn't show up, so we decided to go "streeting." We hopped onto the metro and prayed that with our short hour we had, that God would put prepared people in our path. We went to 2 metro stops and got off but felt like it wasn't right. We talked to a few people as we traveled, and then finally both felt really good about a stop and got off. We felt kind of awkward because there were a lot of people around and it's sometimes hard to just walk up. But we saw this cute family and decided to ask them what made them happy. We ended up talking to them for about 40 minutes all about Jesus Christ and had a really meaningful conversation. This family was from Romania but they lived in the part where everyone speaks Hungarian. They were highly impressed with our ability to speak. I even said the 5 words I knew in Romania ( FYI the languages are not remotely similar in any way haha) and they were even more impressed! We laughed and talked with them and made such a cool connection. We even invited them to chruch! In the end, they didn’t come but she texted me and said that if we even come to Romania, we have a place to stay!! It was such a testament to me that God will work with every little second that we give to him if we are willing to listen to the spirit.
-We put 6 new people into area book this week!!!
-We taught D, L, V and V about the purpose of life.🤩
-We felt a little overwhelmed about ads after talking to another mission. We wish we could do more research about audiences and use it more effectively as well as making lovely creatives. But we will find a way to make it work.
-We got to comfort G about his daughter, who had a baby die. It was a super spiritual lesson.

This is something I learned this week:
Family is so crucial. I was feeling stuck and a little overwhelmed but after talking to my family I felt a more peace and clarity.
Sometimes in my missionary work I feel as if I am on a big beach with a tiny shovel trying to dig a 100 little holes, and not making much of a difference. I wish I could dig great wells in each area, those being teaching, working with members, social media to spread our content around the country.
I still do not know exactly how to balance myself between all that we want to. I want to fulfill my media calling but I also want to teach and find and run ads and be with members. It is a lot, but I don't want to give any of it up.
On Father's day, my Dad gave me the advice that I needed.
"Jesus Christ enables us to do more than we think possible, but we need to depend on him.  We've been endowed with the power to figure it out!! God will help us become so much more than we think is possible!!!" I'm thank for for my Dad that gave me such inspired advice. Happy Fathers Day Dad!! 💗💗
